The Reed Moore Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The Reed Moore Scholarship was established in 2024 to honor the significant contributions of Constance Moore and Jane Reed.

During their teaching careers at Cuba High School, in Cuba, MO, these professionals inspired hundreds of students by fostering a love and appreciation for storytelling in its many forms. Their commitment to encouraging learners to discover more about themselves, others and the world around them through reading, writing, speaking, and creative expression has made a profound impact on the community and beyond.

One of those students was Anne Shaw Heinrich, author of The Women of Paradise County Series. Anne celebrated the launch of the series and her debut novel, God Bless the Child, with a launch event held at Wallace House in her hometown of Cuba, MO. During this event, the establishment of the Reed Moore Scholarship was announced.

The Reed Moore Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior attending Cuba High School who plans to attend a two or four-year accredited post-secondary educational institution to pursue studies in preparation for one of the following careers:

  • teaching of secondary (high school) English, language arts, journalism or general communications;

  • print or broadcast journalism in all forms (including photography, podcasting, blogging, social media); or

  • creative writing or study of literature

“I spent much of my childhood with my nose in a book, often reading the same stories over and over. Consuming one story after another has long been something I associate with joy…It wasn’t until I was in high school that I discovered something even more thrilling… This discovery caught me by surprise; it changed my life and simply would not have happened without the two incredible teachers who helped me see the stories swirling around me, waiting for me to be their teller.”
